Customized products in Smart Shopify collections
This article refers to Smart Customizer Web to Print App Shopify Version 2.0.
About adding customized products to the cart
- When you add a customized item to the cart, a new product is automatically created in your Shopify catalog.
- This is necessary because Shopify restricts third-party apps from modifying product prices or altering the checkout page, making the creation of a new product mandatory.
- By default, our app performs the necessary operations to prevent these products from appearing at the storefront. However, in some cases, if it doesn't work as expected, these steps may need to be done manually.
Smart Collection troubleshooting
- When a customer adds a customized product to the cart, a newly created Smart Customizer product may automatically appear in Shopify Smart Type collections.
- To prevent Smart Customizer products from appearing in Smart Type collections, the Smart Customizer app automatically performs the following actions on Smart collections each time a Smart Customizer product is created:
- The SC app identifies all Smart Type product collections.
- In those collections, if the condition rule Product type does not contain smartcustomizer-design is missing, it creates this rule.
- It enforces the parameter Products must match: all conditions (this parameter is mandatory).
- If, for any reason, a smart collection doesn’t have this rule, it must be added manually:
"All" collection troubleshooting
- By default, in Shopify, the "All" collection is a special virtual collection that automatically includes all products in your store. This "All" collection is automatically created by Shopify and is not visible in the backend collection list, nor can it be customized.
- To prevent Smart Customizer products from appearing in this virtual collection, the Smart Customizer App will automatically create a real Smart-type "All" collection, overriding the virtual "All" collection. This new collection will include a single rule: Product type does not contain smartcustomizer-design.
- If, for any reason, our app fails to create this collection, the "All" collection should be created manually using the example of a Smart Collection provided in Smart Collection troubleshooting description.
Customer prints and associated Shopify products
- Customer Print records are automatically deleted based on the following criteria:
- Customer Prints with a Paid status: Deleted 3 months after the purchase date.
- Customer Prints with other statuses: Deleted 40 days after their creation.
- These timeframes apply to all versions and platforms of the SC app.
- IMPORTANT When a Customer Print record is erased, the corresponding Shopify Smart Customizer (SC) product, which was created when the customized product was added to the cart, is also automatically deleted. This applies only to users of SC Shopify version 2.0.
- You can find this Product ID and its Variation ID in the Customer Prints > your Order’s Print settings.
